About our organization

Gillette Crime Stoppers is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) operated entirely by volunteers who live here in Campbell County, WY. Board members are not employed by Gillette Crime Stoppers. Founded in 1983, Gillette Crime Stoppers has helped local authorities in resolving cases and making arrests while provided a cash-based reward for that information. We are not limited to Gillette only – we serve all of Campbell County, WY.

We strive to not accept tax-payer funding at this time as this program is designed to foster support for the community by solving crimes, foster cooperation from law enforcement by providing criminal or fugitive information, and by maintaining a tax-free reward system. Due to operating costs of software (such as our P3 tip system and website), we seek the community’s help whenever and wherever we can to raise funding for the cash reward.

Working closely with many different local law enforcement agencies, other Crime Stoppers organizations (across the country) and local businesses and shop keepers to help find and arrest individuals involved in crimes, recover stolen property, confiscate illegal narcotics, and many other community needs.

About our Tip Program

We operate a completely anonymous tip program called P3 for the community to use and submit information through. If you call/text our tip-line, your submission is entered into this system and you will be given a Tip ID number and Passcode, so that only you can add to the information and check up on your reward status.

Here’s how the tip system works: You (anonymous tipster) provide information to Gillette Crime Stoppers that you wish for law enforcement to know. This can be anything from where a fugitive is hiding to how your neighbor hides their drugs, to which business is actually extorting customers or who the person is that stole from a business.

Once Gillette Crime Stoppers receives this information it is entered into our anonymous source software called P3 (owned by Navigate).

The arresting officer or person in charge of the case notifies Gillette Crime Stoppers that there has been an arrest/recovery/location confirmed. The Board of Directors then holds a vote (usually within 24hours of notification) and a reward is approved.

Only crimes or fugitives from Campbell County, WY are eligible for the cash reward system.

All donations to Gillette Crime Stoppers are considered tax-deductible.

The Board of Directors is composed of Campbell County residents, either full time employed or retired, and is 100% volunteer based. No member of the board is paid for their service to Crime Stoppers.

About Crime Stoppers USA History1

about

Crime Stoppers was the brainchild of a young Albuquerque detective who was concerned by the number of unsolved cases he and fellow detectives were working, and was particularly frustrated that all possible leads had been exhausted regarding the murder of a young college student. He felt information that would solve the crime was available from someone other than the criminal. That principal led to the major factors that needed to be addressed so individuals would come forward.

Members of the local community, media and law enforcement, came together in partnership to begin the effort to provide crime-solving assistance to law enforcement, and the first Crime Stoppers program was born on September 8, 1976.

A cash reward was offered to individuals that provided anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers with information which would lead to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for the crime. The local media publicized the first “Crime of the Week” and the phone number to call with the information. A call received by the program resulted in the arrest of three men, within 72 hours, who had been involved in the homicide of the young college student that had occurred about 4 months earlier.
